Turn your sources into a working notebook.

Choose and understand your sources

1. Create or open a notebook in your Space. Add text, a public URL or an available document, then wait for source processing to finish.
2. Select the sources you want to use. Ordinary Studio generation accepts up to 20 sources and 80,000 characters of source text; choose less material if the selection exceeds the limit.
3. Open a source to read its text and evidence. Use Explain this source or Study guide to ask for key ideas, a learning outline and useful questions.
4. Add titles and labels to organize the material. For a URL source, choose Import latest version when you want to read the page again.

Importing the latest version creates a new source. Select it for new work; earlier citations still refer to the original. Sources do not refresh automatically. A limited preview or clipped web excerpt is marked so you can judge how much material was available.

Ask questions and follow the evidence

Ask a question in Chat with your sources selected. Follow-up questions keep the conversation context. Open a citation to inspect its supporting excerpt, or save a useful answer as a note. You can edit notes and turn a note into another source for future work.

Generated content is checked against the supplied source IDs and quoted excerpts. This checks where an answer came from; it does not guarantee that every interpretation is correct. Inspect the evidence when a conclusion matters, and ask about uncertainty or disagreements between sources.

Research a question with the web

Choose Fast or Deep Research and enter the question you want to investigate. PersistMemory uses its configured SearXNG service to discover sources and its own crawler to read their pages, import the evidence and produce a cited report.

Research has a three-minute reading budget and imports at most 80,000 characters. Failed reads count toward the page limit. The report uses downloaded page text; search snippets are kept separate. Blocked pages, clipping and partial coverage remain visible. This research path disables paid search fallback, while report generation and query expansion can use your configured model provider.

Research runs as a saved job. Imported sources may appear before the report finishes, and may remain if a later step fails. Newly imported sources become available for ordinary notebook chat after processing completes.

Bring sources from Google Drive

Open Google Drive in Sources, connect your account if needed, and select up to five supported documents. Notebook editors import from their own Google account. Use Refresh on an imported source to check it again: changed text becomes a new source version, and older citations keep their original evidence.

Imports support Google documents and common text, PDF and Office files, within the displayed limits. Files requiring OCR or unsupported extraction need a readable text export. Drive refresh runs when you choose it.

Create in Studio

Choose an artifact type, then set the language, difficulty, count, length, audience, style or custom instructions. You can start now or schedule generation for later. The available choices reflect the capabilities configured for your workspace.

Quiz attempt responses keep the answer and explanation hidden until submission. Flashcard reviews and quiz attempts are saved to your account. Artifact revisions preserve older versions so you can compare changes without rewriting the evidence behind earlier work.

Follow a generation job

The artifact shows whether it is queued, running, ready, failed or cancelled. You can close the page while work continues. Request a completion notification explicitly if you want one. Your notebook allowance and provider spending limits apply.

If a provider response is lost or a worker stops, the job may have an uncertain outcome. Check its saved state before choosing Retry. Accepted work is not silently repeated; an explicit retry creates a new revision. Cancelling stops subsequent work, although a provider may already have accepted a request.

Export a document or image

Open a ready artifact and choose an export format. These are actual files with the artifact's content and source evidence.

PDF currently supports Latin text only. Unsupported writing systems produce a clear error; DOCX, HTML and Markdown retain their text. PNG rendering uses the server's installed fonts and rejects oversized diagrams. Choose SVG for a large mind map or infographic.

Quiz exports include the answer key and explanations. The interactive quiz keeps them hidden until submission; an exported quiz is study material with answers.

Listen, watch and inspect calculations

Use Ask aloud on a ready artifact to discuss its selected sources. The recording pauses before the microphone opens, your private Notebook chat keeps the questions and answers, and you choose when to resume playback.

Audio requires narration synthesis. Video requires both narration and a configured isolated video renderer; it produces narrated slides by default. When available, choose Cinematic for up to three AI illustration clips with your cited narration; Studio shows the additional allowance reservation before generation. Analysis requires a configured compute sandbox. If these services are unavailable, Studio reports that capability instead of pretending a script is a finished recording or a calculation has run.

A playable audio or video artifact has a real media file served through authenticated access. Its cited script remains available beside it. Non-English narration needs a suitable configured voice, and visual text needs fonts that support the chosen writing system.

Share deliberately

Notebook access follows your Space and accepted notebook invitations. Editors can create and revise artifacts; viewers can read and study. Your chat threads and study history remain personal. Owners can create expiring public links and revoke them later.

Access is checked again while research and generation run. Removing someone's access stops later work under their request. Review what a public notebook will reveal before creating a link.
